What does it mean to be a non-degree student?
You can choose to take UPOU courses for continuing education purposes, not necessarily to earn a degree. However, if at some point you decide to go for a degree, you can only credit a maximum of 9 units earned as a non-degree student. Also, some courses give non-degree students the option of not having to finish all requirements (for example, the final exam). If this is the case, you will need to complete these requirements before you can receive a grade for the course.
For more information, contact the University Registrar (registrar upou.net) or the Office of the Dean managing the course you are interested in.
What are non-formal courses?
Non-formal courses are specifically designed for the continuing education of learners who wish to develop new skills or update their knowledge of a subject. These courses have no credit unit equivalent and are not part of any degree program. Students do not receive a numeric grade after course completion. Also, non-formal courses are offered several times during the year, often not following the semesteral schedule of degree courses.
